Wado Kai Karate
Arizona Wado Karate teaches traditional Japanese Wado Kai Karate. Wado Kai Karate is based on fundamentals of Okinawan Shotokan Karate, Jujutsu and Aikido. The Wado style was officially recognized in 1934. Wado Karate was founded by Grand Master Hironori Ohtsuka. Wado Karate relies on soft style techniques which allow the student to use the power of his opponent against him. Soft style techniques have been described as ‘allowing the train to go by’ as opposed to trying to stop an oncoming train.
Kata and Basics
Much of your karate training will involve learing the basic techniques (kicks, blocks, punches and stances) and forms (katas). Katas are the pre-determined fight sequences used to teach the various blocks, punches, kicks, stances and movements of Wado Kai Karate. Basics and Katas become the basis of the fighting (Kumite) techniques used for tournament sparring and self defense.
Martial Art means Fighting Art. Much of your training will involve controlled sparring to learn the proper ways to apply Karate techniques in fighting situations to defend yourself and your family.
